Papiers Croisés  (Cross Papers) is the name of a collective and individual work made up of 100 small collages. 10 000 combinations can be made of it, according to location of each collage. Through its concept, Papiers croisés reveals two characterictics of collage : iconoclastic meetings and possibility of recombining all that has been created before…

Objective and rules

            Papier croisés is a work 2.28 x 2.28 foot (100 x 100 cm) made up of 100 collages 3.94 x 3.94 inch (10 x 10 cm). Ideally, each ‘square’ is created by one artist - even though an artist can create several squares. The square musn’t be more than 0.12 inch (3 millimetres) thick. The the final work is exhibited  during the 15 th Salon International du Collage Contemporain  in Paris , april 2008.

            Papiers Croisés allows collages trading between artists. In this spirit, each participant will receive, after exhibition, as many squares of other artists as he will have sent himself.

            Each artist will have to note on the back of his collage a word or a verb. All these words and verbs will be mixed, dépending of the definitive arrangement of the work, in order to create a poetic ‘cut up’.

            The first year of Papiers croisés, a virtual museum (a king of ‘cross papers memoir’) will be opened on the main Artcolle web site so that to keep a memory of each final work and artists names.

            Through this original exhibition, Artcolle hope that each participant will own an unique collection of contemporary collages. There is no selection, but Artcolle will reject offensive collages (sex, racism, etc.). In that case, artists get their money back.

According to number of participants, one or several works (100 collages) will be created.
